The Huntsville Committee of 100 YP held its 3rd hugely successful Rock the Vote event for more than 400 young professionals and 50 candidates on February 28 from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Historic Depot Roundhouse. The free event was geared to all young professionals 21-40 in Madison County and to all candidates on the ballots for Huntsville, Madison, and Madison County offices in 2012. It included food, beverages, live music, and the opportunity to register to vote and learn about the upcoming 2012 elections.
More than 60 young professionals registered to vote that evening and many in attendance committed to working on various candidates’ campaigns and learned their voting districts. The purpose of the project is to encourage issues awareness, political involvement and voting among a diverse group of young professionals, and to make candidates aware of the importance and strength of the young professional vote in the community. Committee of 100 YP collaborated with HYP, First Fridays, and Connect to reach as diverse a group of YPs as possible.
Chris Hanback and Jane Brooks chaired Rock the Vote ’12. Other members of the planning committee included Andy Agee, Leah Amos, Drew Battle, Kimberly Battle, Robert Davis, Vince Dickens, Tracy Doughty, Jason Landers, Rob Mayes, Todd McAdams, Latasha McCrary, Emily Miller, Lauren Mosley, Archie Tucker, Bree Wilbourn and Jeff Wilke. Staff member Danielle Moran provided management support for the event.
Mark Craig, county license director, volunteered his time to cook all the food for the event. Other sponsors donated beverages, in-kind support, and door prizes. Please see our sponsor logos below.
