Committee of 100 YP Hosts "Rock the Vote 2010"
Committee of 100 YP held its second hugely successful Rock the Vote event for almost 400 young professionals and 40 candidates on Thursday, April 15 from 6 until 9 p.m. at the Historic Depot Roundhouse. The free event included food, beverages, live music, and the opportunity to register to vote and learn about the upcoming 2010 elections.
More than 20 young professionals registered to vote that evening and many in attendance committed to working on various candidates’ campaigns and learned their voting districts. The purpose of the project was to encourage issues awareness, political involvement and voting among a diverse group of young professionals, and to make candidates aware of the importance and strength of the young professional vote in the community.
Katherine Enfinger and Chris Hanback chaired Rock the Vote ’10. Other members of the planning committee included Kimberly Battle, Jane Brooks, Clinton Carter, Robert Davis, Vince Dickens, Tracy Doughty, Camillia King, Emily Miller, Olly Orton, Katie Taylor and Victor Vasile.
Mark Craig, county tax assessor, volunteered his time to cook all the food for the event. Other sponsors donating beverages and door prizes included Air Tran, Amendment XXI, Best Buy, Great Spirits, Knology and Supreme Beverage.
