Huntsville, AL. (February 18, 2016)— The Committee of 100, a local organization of 240 business leaders, announced today its endorsements for the local March 1 primary elections.
“This is a time when statesmanship and a collaborative spirit are needed more than ever to lead our diverse community toward common goals,” said John Allen, Chair of BizPac, the political action arm of the Committee of 100. “We believe the candidates we’ve endorsed possess those leadership skills and the experience to effectively manage the duties of their office and serve the public.”
Candidates receiving the BizPac endorsement are:
- Madison County Board of Education District 4 – Dave Weis
- Madison County Commission District 1 Democratic Primary – Roger Jones
- Madison County Commission District 1 Republican Primary – Bronson Patterson
- Madison County Commission District 2 – Steve Haraway
- Madison County Commission District 3 – Eddie Sisk
- Madison County Commission District 4 – Phil Vandiver
- Madison County Commission District 5 – Phil Riddick
- Madison County Commission District 7 (Chairman) – Dale Strong
Since 1996, BizPac has contributed money and support to candidates for local offices, including Huntsville Mayor and City Council, Madison Mayor and City Council, Huntsville Board of Education, the Madison County Commission, and Madison County Schools Superintendent and Madison County Board of Education.
As part of its mission to encourage civic engagement in local politics, the Committee of 100 also sponsored Rock the Vote 2016 on February 9th for young professionals. This event attracted a large crowd of more than 600 attendees including 45 candidates. About 300 young professionals registered to vote or updated their voter information at various Rock the Vote events that week.
